Hello all,

I purchased an Epson R1800 printer last weekend but just yesterday installed it and printed an 8 x 10 photo, using Adobe Elements 4.0 last night.

The photo looks awesome! I'm very pleased.

However, this morning, I look at the ink indicator (near my clock at the bottom of the Win XP screen) and it shows that 1/4 of each ink color is down!

Is that really accurate? Does that mean that I'm only going to be able to print FOUR 8 x 10s before I have to purchase ink??

I'm thinking that it just lowered the one notch (1/4) to show that it's not full... but I really hope that's all it is... and that not 1/4 of each ink color was used.

If anybody can offer enlightenment, I'd truly appreciate it!

Thanks so much!

That apparently high consumption was the initial prime -- you won't get as many prints out of the supplied cartridges as from the next set for that reason.

New printers come with a protective fluid in the heads that has to be flushed out before it will print correctly.

It will still cost you heaps if you stick to Epson carts, though...

I'm hesitant to purchase non-Epson compatible cartridges. I guess I've heard some horror stories.

Could anybody recommend some good non-Epson compatible cartridges that are of good reputation?

Thanks very much!
