Hi Guys, first time poster here.

I have an ip5200 and I had bought a non-chipped 3rd party cartridges for it.

I swapped the chip over and all it says is 'ink tank error had occured' and the lights are flashing. I swapped the chip back to the originals and it says 'cartridge is empty'.

Can anyone tell me what is happening with the 3rd party cartridge?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Just guessing here, but maybe you've discovered why the prism technology is still in there... anyone else?? :-)

Can you provide detailed information on where you purchased the cartridge as well as post links to multiple photos of the cartridge from all angles.. That might provide some clues.

Ok... I can't answer why the 3rd party cartridge has failed but I'd guess it isn't compatible after all and there may be issues with the prism (as Speedy suggested) or some other facet of the cartridge that doesn't meet Canons own design.

As to the "empty" message you're getting now on the original cart, well I'd also guess the chip has sensed it was swapped or at least suffered an error and is now marked as "empty" as a sort of failsafe that Canon have built into the printer and chip firmware.

These are just educated guesses but may help figure out what's going on..
