Walter, have you tried the buttons at the bottom of the actions palette as I and slipe suggested ?

They are across the bottom of the palette next to the Play button. The first folder is Create new set and the second, Create new action.

Maybe I'm not explaining this well, or I'm not doing something right. Here's what I do:

1. I open an image

2. I open the Action palette

3. I click on the right arrow icon on the right of the Action palette

As I said before, all 12 selections are greyed-out. Nothing happens when I click one any of them.

After the last greyed-out selection "Playback Options", the rest are shown in black and can be selected, beginning with "Clear All Actions".

You are explaining it well enough, that is why i suggested you try the buttons on the 'front'.

Do not click the right facing arrow, but try the buttons at the bottom of the palette. In my screengrab above, you can see the buttons are immediately beneath Stevekin's Drop shadow action and behind the white arrow.

Please try and click the damn button Walter

Well, here's the problem. There are no buttons at the bottom of my Actions palette. When I open the Actions palette I am shown more than 50 different items. Plus, they don't have those check boxes to the left of the choices as you show. But, no buttons at the bottom, such as in the Layers palette, etc.

Aah !

I think you might be in button mode !
Are all the actions in the list in different colour tabs ?

Click the right facing arrow, near the top of the drop down list will be Button Mode.
If this is checked, click it once to uncheck.

All should be back to normal....hopefully :-)

Button mode is the 'dummy' mode, it basically makes it easier by only allowing you to play any actions already in the list.
You cannot edit actions, nor see the individual steps for each action, only play them with one click of the action.

Please tell me you are in Button mode.

Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU!!

Yes, I was in "Button mode". As I said, I'm fairly new to Photoshop and I just couldn't figure it out on my own. Even went on the Adobe web site and searched and searched for a discussion thread there relating to my issue.

Appreciate your patience and help very much!

Walter
