Mike Cheney (the author of QImage and Profile Prism has some articles about ICC Profiles in his monthly Tech Corner articles here.

Some of them include Using ICC Profiles with Canon Printers, Using ICC Profiles with Epson Printers, My Printer Profiles Aren't Working and more.

If you browse through his articles, you'll find that lots of them address color management issues and ICC Profiles.

I think I have found a decode for the Canon Profiles, for example Profile CNB79CB0.

I believe the first five letters are model related ie CNB79 this is my printer an IP5200.

The paper and print quality settings are the next two letters ie CB. ie letters 6&7

letter6 refers to the paper type where C is PR (photo paper pro), D is Matte photo paper (MP) andE is photo paper plus glossy (PP)

letter 7 refers to the print quality where A is 1, B is 2, C is 3, etc, etc,

the last letter no 8I dont have a clue.

So in this grouping CNB79CB0 letters 6&7 translate to PR2.

In another example my i865 has the profile CNB5MED0 where CN5BM is the model and ED becomes PP4. Can this be true I think we need to be told!
