How is it that thereis 10x8 photopaper available for darkroom developing, yet not for inkjet printouts(maybe there is but I can`t find any). Most portraits usually are in the 10x8 format.Do photographers just print out a 10x8 on A4 paper, ortrim down from roll paper?

Sorry if its a dumb question, I `m new to printing and need to know for costing purposes.

Thanks

If you don't see it in the U.K., that's probably because the most common print sizes are the "A" sizes in the U.K.

In the U.S., 8x10" is a very popular print size and you can buy lots of different paper in that size. Just look at any of the Photographic Enlarging Paper categories at B&H for examples:

There are a lot of frames available in the US for 8.5 X 11 format prints. I usually buy that sized paper and trim it if I need an 8 X 10 for some particular project.

I would think A4 frames would be available in the UK and that is probably what I would normally use. There isn't anything special about the 8 X 10 format unless you are stuck with an 8 X 10 frame or album that takes only that size.

Ooops...

I interpreted the question backwards.

I thought he was implying that 8x10" photographic paper wasn't available. ;-)

Here in the U.S., you can buy 8x10" photo paper for inkjets from some manufacturers. I use to use the Epson Heavy Weight Matte Paper in this size when I had an Epson printer.

But, 8.5 x 11" is more common (that's the standard "Letter" size paper here in the U.S.)

Thank you for the info, I probably will go the A4 route.Either print full A4 or 10x8 and then trim down.I can find plenty of 10x8 frames but not 10x8 photopaper. The local Jessops Photographic store lets you print off 10x8`s from your memory card using their digital print service, but dont stock 10x8 photopaper for you to print your own pics at home

thanks
