I am editing my files in light room and exporting to qimage to print.

Is there any advantage to bringing in 16 bit files either for interpolation or printing.

Or am I better off with 8 bit?

Qimage can read the 16 bit files, but if you want to save some space you can save them at 8 bits/channel if they are ready for print. There is usually no advantage to storing print-ready TIFFs at 16 bits/channel. 16 bits/channel is more useful for editing (pre-print).
