Is there a picture's size limitation ?

i can't open a pic file wich is 20889 x 15225 (909 Mo) that i wanted to print as a mosaic.

I tried various formats : tif, png, psd

it just shows : "Image Read Error" on the thumbnail ???

Thanks for your help

Cyril

The only real limitation is your own system memory and virtual memory. The pixel limit is 100,000 x 100,000 pixels but since that is a 30 gigabyte image, you are likely to hit memory limitations before pixel limitations. Since the image you are working with is about 1 GB in size, you may be running out of memory to process the image. If you don't have enough RAM/swap space, my only suggestion would be to break up the image into 4 tiles and then just print with "compact" placement so that the tiles fit together seemlessly.

In effect, yes, PhotoShop can sometimes open larger files because they have their own bag of tricks for handling very large files. When you charge 600 bucks per copy for your software, you can afford to do things like that. :-)
