OK. I have managed to create templates for packing
a sheet with a custom sizes layout, but the results
are not 100% accurate to the pixel.

Why? Probably because in the Full Page Editor
both the Initial Bounds and Print Location use only
2 decimal digits. If they used 3 or more or, even better,
it allowed to work in actual pixel values, the layout would
be completely accurate.

By the way, when I started using that editor, dragging a
frame would show the four distances *to the edges of
the sheet* (never less than the mechanical margins).
All of the sudden the distances shown are to the
edges *of the printable area*. Now they always go up
to 0.0. Did I change any setting inadvertedly?

By the way (2), after an image is placed in a frame of
a template, I see no way to remove the image and leave
the frame exactly as it was (if one deletes the image, it
leaves a frame with its shape).

Regards,

Rick Trelles

I'm not sure why you'd need that level of accuracy (to a thousandth of an inch) or how you would even know whether it was accurate to more than 1/100th of an inch when no printer can load paper consistently enough to be accurate to within more than about 1/64th of an inch and that's only at the leading edge: accuracy gets worse the longer the paper. I've never heard of anyone needing more than 1/100th of an inch of accuracy but there's always someone doing something strange, so I'm all ears. :-)

The distances listed in the page editor are distances to the edge of the paper, not to the edge of the printable area. If you can drag all the way to 0.0, you must be in borderless mode or in print-to-file mode, both of which have no borders.

Finally, you are correct that there is no way to recover the original template once you place a print into it when you have the crop (scissors button) in the up position (off). This is because the template is the placeholder and once you place an image into that placeholder and the image is a different aspect ratio, the print takes on the new size based on the aspect ratio of the image. You don't have this problem if your templates are cropped templates with the crop feature on because with crop on, your template and the image you place into the template are always exactly the same size.

Mostly it's a matter of having the edges of pictures in a row well aligned for trimming. Since there is no option to work in real pixels, the more decimals in the entries the more chances to make the pixels match.

Exactly, I was in those modes. Thank you!

To me templates are the workhorses of filling pages quick and well. They should be as functional as possible.

They should be easy to design well and easy to load.

Pictures should be removable from them and the template stay the same.

One should be able to add pages while maintaining the same template.

(I could say more about templates, but let's start with this for now.)

Thanks again,

Rick

Hi! Now I have another simple request for layouts (templates).
See number 5. below.

To me layouts are the workhorses of filling pages quick and well.

1. They should be as functional as possible.

2. They should be easy to design well and easy to load.

3. Pictures should be removable from them and the layout stay the same.

4. One should be able to add pages while maintaining the same layout
(now I see this happens when a page is full and one doubleclick a picture,
but then the picture is autoplaced in the first frame of the next page).

5. (NEW) The auto-crop/full image option shouldn't remain embeded
in the layout (now it remains fixed). Layouts should be like a set of
minipages inside a page.

(I could say more about layouts, but let's start with this.)

Thank you,

Rick

Hi! Next simple request for layouts is number 6.

5. The auto-crop/full image option shouldn't remain embeded
in the layout (now it remains fixed). Layouts should be like a set of
minipages inside a page.

6. (NEW) Pages should be treated as part of a printing job one is putting
together. They shouldn't be deleted without permission. Now if one
moves to a new page and loads a template, the previous page disappears!

(I could say more about layouts, but let's leave it here.)

Thank you,

Rick
