If someone is looking for reliable and cheap camera I could advice to get Olympus UZ-740. We have been remote controlling UZ-740 since 1.1.2005 to take a one image per minute. Today we have 1186595 images taken with that camera and there has been no need for maintenance.

Easy solution to remote control for Olympus camera is Cam2Com http://www.sabsik.com/Cam2Com/ but if you are a Linux guru, remote controlling could (afaik) be done also with Gphoto2.

Our time-lapse project home page can be found from www.karhukamera.com there you can find all images taken with UZ-740.

I would like to ask few questions concerning this: Does anybody know how many images have been taken with digital camera (without maintenance)? Has there been any test-projects on internet?

I would also like to know, have you found time-lapse projects that have been observing same target for a long time (like years or so)?
