When I connect the external hard drive to the camera via the USB cable the camera does not see the hard drive and responds "hard drive not connected. The hard drive is a WD Passport 100GB. It is getting power thru the camera.

The Xacti Library manual states that a hard drive powered through the USB port cannot be used; it must be self-powered i.e. AC driven. Too bad, otherwise it would mean better portability without having to carry a bigger 3.5 inch HDD with its power supply.

Hardly surprising as many older laptops couldn't power these drives and the battery in these cameras is much smaller.
