There seems to be rather more to achieved speed that one can see in the advertised specs (which you have to be a bit careful of anyway as the headline number tends to be the read speed which CAN be very different).

I started (a 7D) with the Kingston Ultimate which claims a relative write speed of 16X and writing the largest JPEG would bog down after 5 or 6 shots. Because they were cheap in the UK (but are apremium brand in the US)I changed to Transcend (18X write speed sothere shouldn't be much different at all) and can get 15-20 shots before the buffer fills.

Go figure!
