Cheers guys,

From the reviews I've read, my thoughts were towards the Tamron too. It doesn't look like there are the supply issues in the UK, so hopefully I might not have to wait too long for delivery.

Its interesting to note, a fairly well known retailer in the UK (Jessops) have none of the Sony mounted Sigma 70-300s in stock (either on their website or in store). I asked one of the retail assistants when I can get one and they said that it could be months as they would have to come from the factory. The person didn't really go into any more detail and seemed to avoid the issue.

OK, after everything, I got back my lens repaired, it lasted a week this time, but I have nothing but nice things to say about Sigma's customer service. They listened to me and tried to repair it properly, they finally admitted they could not repair it and would I like a new 28-300mm to replace it. Since this is a more costly lens they didnt have to do that, they could have just strung me along until the warrranty ran out. I of course accepted the offer of the replacement.
