At current prices, it's probably hard to beat for a camera with that sensor, as I see B&H has the A500 kit with the 18-55mm lens for only $548.28 right now (cart price, as it's probably too low for them to advertise it, given dealer agreements with Sony). My guess is that we're seeing closeout pricing because Sony should be releasing some new models with the ability to record video very soon, as they've already announced they'll be releasing more dSLR models this year (probably leading into Photokina).

I purchased just the A-500 body, as I already have the required lenses. The A-500 body arrived this afternoon (08/16). The camera size is fine. I have gotten the battery charged and taken the first photo. All in all it looks and feels impressive. Time will tell more.

Here is a 3rd shot taken under poor indoor lighting to check the low light level focusing. Used bounce flash.
