Just got an e-mail back from Sony. The LCD unit and focus plate were replaced. There is no charge for the repair. Camera is in transit via ground 3 day ship to me with Monday delivery date.
So a happy ending it looks to be. dave |

You were *very* lucky (water damage repaired under Warranty is virtually unheard of ). Congrats!

When you get it back, mount the longest lens you've got, put it on a tripod, turn off SSS, and take some test shots. Then take it off the tripod, turn on SSS, and take some shots of the same subject. Compare the two sets of photos to see if SSS is still working.

Suspect? No. But if the SSS was damaged in transit, it's better to find out quickly, so you can get it repaired quickly. ... and for free.
Use a slow shutter speed, and you might want to take another set of shots handheld with SSS off, just to be sure.
