It seems like Sony is releasing a new 28-75mm f/2.8 zoom lens (SAL-2875). This lens has SAM (smooth AF motor) built in.
![]() specifications (SonyStyle USA) An affordable and lightweight alternative to the Carl Zeiss 24-70 f2.8 lens (SAL2470Z)? |

It's a Sony branded Tamron 28-75/2.8, which is to say that it's very good. ... just more expensive.

As I understand it, it's not necessarily quiet. It's just a motor. Sony seems to be fielding the idea of dropping motors from some of its dSLR bodies.

I agree. The reason people bought into the Sony dSLR product line in the first place is all the Minolta AF lenses on the used market. Sony hasn't beefed up it's own lens selection enough to support such a move. Nikon needlessly segmented it's own product line, but at least they had enough lenses to keep it viable. Sony doesn't.
