Is the H5 a huge improvement from the H1 and H2?

H2 and H5 vs H1

Branded 'Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar' lens, probably has different coatings on the lens surface but otherwise the same as the H1s

Use duo sticks the older full size sticks will not fit.

Higher pixel count

Even less pictures can be taken in burst mode at the highest resolution, and thats compared to the poor burst mode the H1 started with..

Different sized lcds 2in and 3in, 85k pixelson the H2 , 230k on the H5 (vs 115k H1)

Smaller viewfinder (but more pixels)

Higher ISOs and less noise at those ISOs, a decent ISO 400 and a usable 800 !

Manual focus peaking

More control over the flash which is more powerful than the H1s

Can use optical zoom while taking movies.

You can get the H5 in black ...

There are also minor differences in the shutter speeds available under different program modes see the table at

I would get the H5 or H2 just for the betterpictures at higherISOs.

Many people have said the 3in lcdon the H5 means the backis cluttered and the buttons are in poor positions so many people find they keephitting a button or two as they struggle to find a good way to hold it..
