What can be done to keep the flash from being too bright. In the menu I have it set to - but it is still too bright.

DSC-1 ??

Do you mean a DSC-H1 ?

It is known for having a powerful flash, especially compared to the normal underpowered wimpy flashs most people are used to on simpler digicams.

Try using a diffuser, some people use a homemade one, a ping pong ball cut open or a film canister (white) placed over the flash.

Or you can go commercial , use something like a lumiquest softscreen, which can be attached with a couple of rubber bands.

Or the simplest method of all.

Stand further back.

At times I use a piece of Bounty paper towels.

I threw out my hankies years ago and use Bounty.

Tear out a piece and wrap it around your flash, or hold in front of it, and you will be happy with the results.

Don't try the cheap brands, they don't have the fiber to do the job, either for your nose nor your flash.
