Default Sony DSC-P52 My movies always come out VERY dark

Let me preface by saying I am a beginner: point-and-shoot is more my style.

Purchased this camera last week. I obviously like the SONY name and have nothing but great things to say about still image quality.

Movies (video) is my issue. Movies are all dark. Outside they are acceptable, but still on the darker side. Inside the are not acceptable, under what I would consider sufficient lighting - outside sunlight plus incandescents (250-300W). I have played with the EV settings and it does help (+1 to +2 or so). I also tried the white balance settings, but nothing. Everything else is set to the default.

I hope I am doing something dumb and it would be a quick fix, because I love the features of this camera. Can anybody offer a suggestion (Sony email support was not helpful).
