Two things, one you're right, one you're wrong.

1) Sports mode sucks on the H7 and H9. Quite simply, the firmware for that scene mode is simply wrong. It's a bug. It should be a high-shutter-speed shutter-priority mode for sports. It isn't. Don't use it.

2) The camera will do predictive autofocus in any mode. It will kick in automatically:

a) inbetween the half-click of the shutter and the full click

b) Between shots in burst mode

I use this camera for sports (I shoot professionally, BTW) all the time, with excellent results in decent light. And the Predictive Autofocus is killer!

So, shoot in shutter-priority mode with speed at or above 1/250th (depending on the sport) and let the camera take care of the autofocus itself.

You don't need Sports mode. Especially one that doesn't work :G
