Default Sony d-770 problem

Over a year ago, (threfore out of warranty),
I bought a Sony cyber-shot Pro Digital 770
SLR type camera. At first I was thrilled at
my new toy with all the bells and whistles.
Soon, the flash started to miss even when it
was put in "forced on" mode. This was not
too bad because it has a fast lens and usually
does not need a flash--even indoors.Then the
internal flash just stopped working. Well,
I'm easy.....I'll just buy an external flash
from Sony and use it. However, I checked the
hot shoe with an ohm meter and could find
neither ohms nor voltage when triggered in "EXT"
flash mode at a low shutter speed or any speed.

My gripe here is that I bought an expensive,
$1400.00, product from Sony with a 90 day
warranty that isn't worth anything! Most
cameras don't get used enough in the first
90 days to show defects. Sony wants almost
$200.00 to repair this problem. Their warranty
and their products suck. I had a Canon AE-1
that lasted over 25 years without a problem.
Sony's lifespan appears to be measured in months,
not years.

Hi Val,

...now you tell me! :-) My new f707 Sony camera is in the mail! So how did you solve the problem? My old camera CasioUV2000 developed the same malfunction. The pop-up flash quit working and I had to pay Casio 150 bucks to fix it! Perhaps it's a common problem to
pop-flashes? Before it went bad, it would pop up any time I take a picture.

Default Extended warranties could be an answer to a lot of aggravati

Extended warranties are a lifesaver in those situations. I have passed on some really good deals on Ebay and have opted to pay just a little more and grab a good 4-5 year warranty. Best Buy offers a replacement value warranty that pro rates fairly. Repair costs on digitals can become prohibitive.
