Or I guess with the W1, they call it "soft snap" mode. I've seen a few pictures posted using the W1 where they are able to get the background blurred -- I used to be able to do this with portrait mode on my old 35 mm, but I can't seem to get it to work with my W1. I've tried different modes & settingswith no luck. Can someone please share with me how you are getting this to work? I'd love to be able to take pictures of my daughter focused on her w/ the background blurred. Thanks!

it´s easy to do that using the macro control and using the tele lens.

You´ll have better quality using the manul control and bigger aperture control.

Try it

To achieve a blurry background you need a telephoto lens with a large f stop. The lens on your W1 at its telephoto setting is still much more wide angle than even the normal lens of your 35mm, You will probably never be able to get the same shallow depth of field to blur out the background.

I would suggest that you use Photoshop or Photoshop elements (or a similar program) and mask the portrait subject and blur out the background using gaussian blur.

Good luck
