For those people with enough good sense to use the Sony Hi-MD Minidisc music system, Sony has an affordable mass storage addonfor digital camera users.

The minidisc unit (in the upper left) uses 1Gb discs (for about $6 each). The reader ((MCMD-R1) in the lower right connects to the MD unit using the USB cable of the MD and is completely battery powered (4 AAA). So all you do is insert your memory card (NOT just ALL MS formats but SD (including miniSD) , xD, CF, Smartmedia and MultiMedia cards) and press the copy button. You don't need a computer and, since both units are completely self-contained...you can take it anywhere! Once you get back home, the MD unit connects to your computer as an external 1GB drive and all your shots can be uploaded in seconds. At $6 per Gb, youcan have dozens of discs worth of pictures by the time you get back from your holiday.

IF you have a Hi-MD walkman (and I can recommend them highly as far superior to Mp3 or ANYTHING from Apple) this completely portable multicard reader is only $99.
