Hi, I just bought a new 512mb Memory Stick Pro for my W-1 and I'm wondering if I need to format it first or can I just go ahead and use it.
Is there any need to format and besides erasing the memory stick, what's the benefit of formatting it?

I don't believe you need to format the new stick. However, formatting does insure the camera is ready to write to the stick, and takes less than 10 seconds to accomplish. No sense taking any chances and losing any pictures. I typically format all my media before I go out shooting.

There's no need to format it since it comes pre-formatted specifically for SONY digicams. However, if you are using a CF card for the V3, THEN you NEED TO FORMAT IT FIRST!
