Default DSC-P72 soft images, shadow?

I just purchased a Sony DSC-P72 to compare to the Kodak 4330 and the Nikon 3100 I have.

So far I think the Sony does a great job in low light settings and it is a quick performer.

There are two problems I see, first, it seems to take soft pictures of people, facial features are not well defined and are not crisp. Secondly, there is always a pronounced shadow to the left side of the subject. Even in descent lighting conditions this shadow is very obvious.

Has anyone else experienced these issues with their P72's? If so, do you know of any suggestions to make my pictures better? I have taken all my pictures with the auto setting so far (since I am a newbie, I don't know what to do with manual settings yet))!

We saw the same problem today. We were starting to wonder if we should return the camera and try out some other ones. I was not sure if this is as good as it gets in a digital camera in the $300 price range.

Default sony P72 is a terrible low light performer

I am trying to get the word out that the P72 is not the camera reviewers have cracked it up to be. It does a terrible job of being a point and shoot camera. Does not take good low light shots, and makes poor decisions in AUTO mode resulting in lots of bad photos. Even in bright sunlight it makes poor decisions on the correct settings.
