and...

Local suburban Cricket match... an overcast day, my new D2X, 300mm prime f4-d lens in High speed crop mode. ISO 400, 1/400 at f7.1.

I am busy looking for things to shoot....

Cheers

I was wondering how you got so much range with a 300mm and now I know you have the D2X it makes sense with the crop for high speed shooting.

You have 2 nice shots here with good exposure and capture of the action. The only thing I would have changed is running a higher shutter speed and lower f stop to remove both the motion blur and lose a bit more of the background.

Looks like you are really enjoying your new toy.... happy shooting!!

Great shots....

I think this may be the one sport in the world I know absolutely nothing about, and I've watched it several times and never have caught on to what was going on. I need to learn it, as I've been asked several times if I was someone from your countrywho is a living legend in the sport!

Hi Greg,

It is not that hard to grasp, have a look at http://www.dangermouse.net/cricket/baseball.htmlwhich was designed for people who don't understand it but have knowledge of baseball.

Also have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...t_and_baseballwhich goes into even more detail.

Trust me it is good fun when you are actually playing it, especially as now there are shorter games designed for the newer audience.

Greg, I feel your pain. I live in the USA, and last year I had to travel to India for 3 weeks on business. Soccer and Cricket were the only sports I saw - they have ESPN there but, of course, only Soccer and Cricket. I'll have to read mark's links because I never did understand it.

By the way - to the OP, I agree with the comment about opening up the aperture - especially on the first shot. The background really takes away from the image. The second one is a bit tougher because I like both players as part of this image.

Hi Aussie G, don't want to look at "any" Aussie cricket pics at the mo:sad:, (have you seen the ashes 1sttest!!:sad, No seriously the first pic is pretty good, but i agree with John G the background is distracting!! lovely timing though, the second pic is just too "busy" for me.

Could itbe genuine criticism or blatant jealousy over the D2x and Aussie cricket dominance:blah:, i think you know which!!Graham:lol:

He he he .... Yes - Greg Chappell was the Captain of the Australian Cricket team for many years... how Ironic...

Here is a shot I got at a local charity match tonight...... shot in the late evening.... about 6.30 PM with the D2X and 300mm prime... SIO 400 1/1600 at f4 Nice enough to freeze a well belted ball in flight...
