I got the chance to shoot at a local church gym set up for the local kids to come in from the cold and snow to skate around on their boards one night each week. It's a bit different than shooting swimming so I had a lot of fun and the kids liked seeing the camera there.

Spy really cool series. My fave has to be the last one as I like abstract sports shots and this one has good use of dof and is sharp.Great action capture and timing throughout . Looks like they were having a really fun time too...... I take it you didn't decide to have a play on a board.

What lens/lenses were you using for this?

Did you try anything working with a really wide lens, as this gives a very different feel to the sport. If not, it is well worth trying it next time as the results you get can be very tidy.

Here are a couple of pics from another photographer who was at an event I went to earlier in the year.

He was using a 10mm lens on a Nikon D100.

Hope you get a chance to shoot some more of these soon and post them here!

Thanks Mark! I'm afraid if I tried to get on one of these boards, I'd find a new way of lying down very quickly!:?

I was using the 70 - 200 2.8 lens as it is my fastest lens. One day soon I plan to get a wide angle lens and try more of these types of shots. The series you sent me are fantastic! I will have to get out to our city's own skate board park in the summer and try some different shots.

The local church has the gym open for skate boarding every Thursday night starting with the Jr. Highers for the first 2 hours then finishing the night with the Sr. Highers at the end.

Next week should be fun!!
