Sorry Av = aperture value (aperture priority) and Tv = timed value (shutter priority). Unless you are going for flash then definitely stick with the 50mm widen up the aperture a bit for better exposure. One of the worst things to do when shooting at high ISO is to under expose and try to bring up the levels as you will just magnify the noise.

For someone new you are doing a good job so keep going at it. As for the noise I don't think it can be quantified easily but it is a lot more at 3200 that 1600. Have a look at these from Steve's review.

ISO 1600 http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_...19_iso1600.JPG

ISO 3200 http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_...20_iso3200.JPG

It will depend on the size of the final print if the noise can be removed enough as 1600 will allow you to print quite a lot larger but it is much better to use 3200 to get the shot than have under exposed or too much motion blur.

Feel free to keep on asking questions as most of us here don't bite (often) and are very happy to help.

I see that there is a Minolta af 85mm 1.4 for sell on e-bay would that lens make a big differance in the sports pics. I noticed that it says a portrait lens. What would be a good price for this lens, it's around the $700 price now.

Thanks

That is probably a question to ping to JimC as I'm not sure how fast it will AF however it should bea nice piece of glass. The length is very good, however from what Jim says the 100mm f2 is good and I don't think will cost as much.
