Bob,

I found the camera on an online classifieds site, craigslist.org. A lady relatively local to me posted it up for sale and I just emailed her an offer. She invited me over to pick it up and I quick shot a few pics of the sky (dust on sensor / dead pixels?), one with the cap on (hot pixels?), and a few normal ones to test it out. I couldn't find a single flaw so I'm very happy with my find. I've used Nikon before but never owned one so I'm very impressed with this camera so far.

Which lenses are you looking at for the Canon route? I'm thinking once I get the D300 I'll get the popular 18-200 for one body (D50 probably) and one each of wide zoom, bright prime, and super zoom for the other. That should keep me set (and broke...) for a while.

Here are the lens I'm looking at for the canon.17-40mm L 4.0.70-200mm 2.8 L. That's it for now. This is a tuff decision for me. I really want only one camera right now. Maybe later I will get a back up.

Bob,

Nikon has a pretty affordable 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. Not sure what you'd do for the long end though -- f2.8 is pretty bright and although there's a Nikon lens that matches, it's kinda pricey. I wonder if there's a Sigma or Tamron equivilant that's more affordable? You could always sell the "backup" body when the D300 rolls around too. Not trying to sway you, just presenting it as an option.
