I want to photograph an Airshow, the best lens I have to do this is a 28-300mm USM L series Canonis it worth making the effort or do I really need a Rioch tele converter before I consider it?

Fortunately Airshows are not terribly extreme when it comes to the kit needed. You can get good exposures and with 300mm on a 1.6x crop you will have more than enough range. I would never want to use a teleconverter with that lens as it is not bright enough to warrant it.

Check out some of the other airshow posts on the site and you can see what has been done and most times the kit it has been done with. Just remember that the bright sky is going to try to over expose most shots so use spot metering or set the camera to over expose a little.

Last thing, if shooting aircraft with props or helicopters keep the shutter speed to 1/320th and below to get movement in the blades.

Let us know how you get on.

I will be attending an airshow tomorrow. I am taking the following:

Canon Digital Rebel XT

Canon 18-55mm lens

Tamron 70-300mm lens

Oh yeah,, 8gb worth of memory cards:-)

I used the same equipment at the last one I attended and worked fine.

Have fun!!!!
