This is state tournament week in Arkansas and probably signals an end to the basketball season for me, with our boys team eliminated yesterday and the girls facing the tournament favorite this afternoon (I have to coach a soccer match in another town and won't be able to shoot.) Just a few final shots taken in an arena that teased me with its lighting.....not quite bright enough to easily use the 50-135 f2.8....but no SO dark that I willingly dropped to the 50mm f1.4.

And, the final shot definitely doesn't meet the criteria of "action," but it does highlight the "unusual" you can see at a sports venue. This is a cheerleader, made up for a halftime performance commemorating the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

Hi Paul, just off to cover my soccer match for today!, As i said to John Gi do not normaly comment on basket ball as i know jack about the sport bur having been on this forum for a while i can see your shots improving all the time, my amature pick would be #1 & 4 (the lighting in #1 seems superior to the rest??) #4 could use some lighting lift though!.

ps I have just read a UKphoto Mag review of your upcomming 70-200 f2.8 lens., your in for a treat apparently:lol:. (get on the weights though) LOL:G. Kind regards Graham.

Thanks for the kind words, Graham. You're right about #4 dark. It was shot from underneath the basket, the darkest spot in the arena. When I tried to bring levels any higher in post-processing, I got unacceptable noise.

I'd love to read the review on the Tamron 70-200 f2.8. Is it online anywhere? I feel like a kid waiting for Santa Claus ( even if Santa used my credit card instead of his elves to make it). It just can't get here fast enough, and waiting for it just seems to make the time pass more slowly.

I'd be willing to bet my soccer weather was nicer than yours today--temps in the mid 70's with bright sunshine all day. :G In fact, I came home from a jamboree (three matches against different opponents with 20 minute halves) with a nice little sunburn. Not to worry, though, we won't get spoiled. Snow is back in the forecast by Monday night, lol. I got to shoot some during the girls' team's matches, but most of my day was consumed with trying to beat through stubborn 16-18 year old heads the lesson that through passes that go directly to the keeper are not a good idea.

The first shot is definitely "the shot" to be pleased with. Great shot! The timing and framing of this shot is the best so far I have seen by you Paul. Not only that but one of the best basketball shots posted here in the forum as well.

Thanks,

Tom
