My son had a three day hockey event up in Marlboro, Mass. so I had a great chance to get my feet wet with the Rebel XTi. With the XTi, the rentedCanon 7-200 L series lens, and the instructionmanual, I gave it my best shot. I've never used an SLR before this trip...always a P&S guy (dare I admit even a Poloroid guy back in the day). Well, I'm hooked! As bad as my shots will look tofolks like you all here, to me, they are a major accomplishment. Here is one of my favorites (cropped for size, no touch ups done). Next purchase is definetely a mono-pod. Shooting this stuff off-hand didn't help any.

Any advice/comments welcome and appreciated.

Always good to give something new a bash and you chose a difficult environment to try out. With the 2.8 lens you would have been helped by going for f2.8 rather than f4 as you could have doubled the shutter speed and reduced the motion blur of the keeper..... isn't hindsight a wonderful thing!!!

Did you get any more from the day to share with us?

Happy shooting,

Mark

Thanks for the comments. I need to spend time using the online turorial offered at the Canon website. Not only is the camera new to me but photography concepts in general are unchartered territory. Here are a few more. Any advice and comments greatly appreciated.

Until I can figure out how to get them "rightsized" I'll just delete them.
