The local track. Conditons varied for overcast to sun every few minutes. Canon 30D with either a Canon 70-300 IS USM or a Sigma 28-70 F2.8 ISO 400 F - wide open various shutter speeds

(note - Used slow shutter speed on the following, 1/100 or so)

(back to higher shutter speeds)

Good shots, like #3 & 4 best.

Would have been nice to have the front of the bike sharp or the riders helmet in shot #2, looks like has focused on riders right hand. Do you use all focus points or a single point ?

The last one is a nice shot but looks to soft for 1/500 sec to me.

Thanks. Shot #2 was one of those shots you had about 1 second to react. I tend to think I was using center focus point. Shot #5, I gave up shortly after taking that shot. It was in the afternoon and by that time the dust was getting pretty thick in the air making good shots difficult.

I agree, 3 and 4 are far superior to the others here. 1 is not really telling any part of a story and no action, 2 is not sharp enough/blur not accounted for with the panning, 5 is just not in focus.

However with 3 you have the action and the the sharpness and reduced dof all sorted nicely. In 4 you have the connection with the eyes so that really lifts the photo making it strong too.
