Ah, outdoor swimming. It's nice to have some light

Here are my thoughts on the photos:

1. Too much dead space. Needs tighter framing.

2. Nice facial expression but looks a bit soft - maybe the resizing?

3. Bad angle - try to get more in front so you get more of the face rather than the back of the head.

4. Nice expression but underexposed. But you should be able to correct for that in PP given the low ISO. The detail's probably there, you just need to bring it out.

5. Pretty soft - either a mis-focus or just cropped too much.

It's between 2 & 4 as far as best of the bunch. It depends on whether 2 is really soft or it's just the re-size. Did you apply any USM?

Keep at it!!

Thanks for the comments John.
This was my first attempt at a swim meet with the new camera and the beercan.
It was very bright and sunny as you can see and I was somewhat limited as to where I could get to for taking pictures.
I had the camera set on the sports mode and just let it all happen.
Some of the softness is likely from cropping and then downsizing again for posting.
I should have shot in the RAW format.

This is a lot easier to shoot than soccer, but not nearly the action.
