I am wondering if the Sigma 70-200 2.8 lens would be good for sports-VB and FB,

and also would this lens fit the Canon XTI?

For volleyball no - not with the XTI. You'll need ISO 3200 to use a 2.8 lens in any HS or lower level gym. I would recommend the 85mm 1.8 for volleyball if you can shoot from the floor. If you're in the stands you'll need the 100mm 2.0 if you're close or 135mm 2.0 if you're further away. In Ohio and many other states flash is not allowed for volleyball.

For football - it depends. If it's varsity football under the lights you'll probably need to use external flash in addition to the lens. Typicall settings for HS football fields around me are ISO 3200, F2.8 and 1/400-500 after the sun is completely gone (coincidentally enough about the same settings as most gyms).

Thanks John, would the 100mm 2.0 and the 135mm 2.0 be a Canon lens, or a

Sigma lens?

They're canon lenses.
