Two of the very best teams met last week and produced a very physical and exciting game of basketball.

1)

A free shot right at the end, concentration!

2)

These two had a real battle all game.

3)

Lynard Stewart, is 6 feet 8 but makes the opposition look small

4)

I wish I was focused in on the player in black, any tips on how I could sharpen him up a bit?

5)

A young english guy who loves to dunk

All taken at ISO6400, 1/400th second and AWB

C&C welcomed

OK, here's the feedback:

1. Too much deadspace at the top of the frame. Also soft - a torso portrait should have better sharpness. the ball looks sharp but the face does not.

2. Nice action but out of focus.

3. Again nice action. Focus is there but shutter is too slow - you've got motion blur. And the noise reduction is a bit heavy handed - you've stripped some detail.

4. Again good timing. But the most interesting aspect of the shot - the defender is either OOF or motion blur - his expression is what could make the shot but it's just not sharp.

5. Timing off. Try to get the ball in the basket just after release - that's the peak action.

I realize you're shooting in a dungeon. I might suggest asking if they'll let you strobe the gym - then buy a couple external flashes and transmitter.

Also - what type of USM did you use? If you're not using it that will account for a lot of the softness I'm seeing.

Thanks for the feedback John.

This Gym was possibly one of the best lit we have the pleasure of visiting!

I have started using USM after my last post on here.Settings wise I use85%, radius 1 and threshold 4.

As for the noise program, I havent really had time to get rifght into it but I use neat Image and use the "Auto" setting.

I am still learning the game (and DSLR's!) so all feedback is helping me.

The local newspaper didn't have a snapper there(250 miles away!) but I sent them 3 or 4 and they printed this along with the game report.

I did catch the dunk a little earlier in the move but I thought the other one was slightly better!

I guess my eyesight isn't as sharp as it should be!

thanks again John
