Default Volleyball season again

Was at a high school match earlier tonight, using a Nikon D90 with 70-200 Sigma 2.8 hand-held. This particular shot was taken in Sports mode, 'auto-area' focusing, 320th of a sec at 2.8, at about 90mm, 3200 ISO. Photo is uncropped. Am hoping to acquire a 50/150 Sigma especially for volleyball.

Have some volleyball pics you'd like to share, put 'em here.

Hi Franko, and thanks for the invite.
My Grand Daughter (13) is about to start the new season also.
I will post a couple that I shot late last year with my new Sony A-700 and the old Minolta 50mm f1.7 lens.
I didn't go over ISO 800 which I see was a mistake as my shutter speeds were to slow (1/250).
This season I will try ISO 1200, 1600, 3200 and see what I get.
I may be in the market for a slightly larger fast lens for this sport.

Hello flying fossil, on both your pics I'm affraid you have a back focus issue (ie the subjects behind the main subject are more in focus!). Did you use Central focus only? if not try this,+ shoot manual or AP. there is no EXIF detail so it's a bit vague?. Kind regards Graham

Side shots can be difficult to focus on, can also try 'focus lock' if your camera has that.

One of my favorite cameras ever, from the film era - Nikon FM2, still have it. Manual everything. Got some great shots with it.

Sometimes can get a decent shot by being behind the action and focusing on the net.

I'd post another shot from the same night for an example, but keep getting an upload error. Jpeg photo, 248k.
