Default Field Hockey 16th Jan 2010

It's only been about a year but I've done it again and shot some sports. I wanted to give the 7D a run and shoot some comparisons against the 1D mkIII at a field sports event.

I will say I can't spot the action like I used to be able to and found timing to be off so I didn't get the sort of quality I would have liked.

I was suffering from horrible lighting being mainly overcast then sometime back lit, after a while the lights were put on so the colour temp changed again. I'm making excuses I know, but I really suffered.

Anyway, here are a few, and as you can see I wasn't the only one out shooting today, but she was shooting from too high...... what does she know, so only works for the local paper?!?!?! lol.

Nice shots Mark. I almost always use portrait mode but landscape works very well in #3 (and #4 too!).

Thanks Andy. Hockey is a pain as they play at more varied levels than with say soccer, getting down very low for power shots etc. Also with two players who are stretched out etc for the ball.

Mark, amazing! Can you be more specific about camera type & settings for us newbies? Maybe you could just come shoot my son's hockey games!

Hey Mark,

Glad to see you got out to shoot some sports again. Now this is a sport we don't see that often over here.

despite your conditions, these look sharp and turned out quite well.

i like #3, #4.

Hi Tam, glad you liked them!

All the settings are embedded in the photo (a lot of us leave them there) so if you download something like oPanda iExif then you can just right click on the photo and see everything for each shot.

Also this might help you out when shooting New to sports shooting and wonder if you can improve?!?!

Mark, great captures as usual, despite the lighting. Like the last one only because she has a better camera and lens than me then I can't use that as an excuse ;-(
