Hi Mike,

The main thing you need to change here is how far away you shoot. With a 200mm lens you need to be within 25 yards of your subjects, I would guess here you are about double that so you don't have any subject isolation and also getting a very accurate focus is tough.

For football you really want 300mm (40 yards rage) or 400mm (50-60 yards range) to get the coverage, if sticking with 200mm then you need to focus on the action that is within the 25 yard range and be patient when it is outside of this.

I wrote this overview in 2008 about sports shooting that might assist you in your progression New to sports shooting and wonder if you can improve?!?!

Mark

on top of Mark's advice, 1/500 is a bit slow for soccer. Bump up the ISO and get at least 1/800 if you can.

Thanks Guys,
I hae a long way to go in both talent and equipment. I'm getting some OK shots, just due to the sheer number that I'm taking. Your input will help me increase the percentage of good shots.
Thanks again,
Mike
