Default Shooting Question Please

My son is in Junior tackle football and his first game is tomorrow. It's supposed to be sunny. I am using a Nikon D5000 with a 55-200 f4/5.6 lens.

Any suggestions for settings so I can get some good action shots would be appreciated. I will be able to walk the side lines too.

Thanks,

Wolverines

I suggest you shoot in continuous drive mode and create large fine JPEG files. If you've got a fast memory card, you should be able to capture some good photos of the action your son is part of.

A focal length of 200mm isn't very long, and if the ball is on the far hash marks, you may have trouble picking him out, so you may not want to even bother shooting when that happens. But stay ready in case some action occurs.

I'd shoot in aperture priority (A Mode), use the maximum aperture (smallest f-number), and use an ISO value to get a fast shutter speed yet still get a decent exposure for the faces.

Thanks TCav. I'll give it a try. Hopefully I'll have some decent shots to post.

Thanks again!
