Default Friday Night Lights

Well, I've shot a grand total of 2 sporting events in the last year now
It was fun to get out and shoot football again. Nothing special here, but I'll contribute none the less. I decided going in, I was going to shoot tight with an emphasis on the carrier. Maybe if I get out again I'll make an effort to shoot to keep carrier/defender in frame just to contrast. As allways, constructive criticism is encouraged:
1.

2.

3. Bad angle - but you don't see many blocked punts captured. Still, could easily go in the bin:

4.

5.

6.

7.

8.

9.

10.

11. Just before I had to vacate the area or get run over

these look great John. Love the face detail in every shot, and some good moments here.

really enjoyed #6, breaking the tackle with the determined look in his eyes.

I see you've been flashing in public again

Good to see you getting out and shooting sports and as expected doing it well. I love the one where you are about to get flattened LOL.

It's a good point that an interesting shot isn't always a good shot with the blocked punt, it doesn't have the same intensity but it did capture a different/rarer aspect of the game.

Very nice shots. I especially like #4, followed by #8.

shots were taken with canon 1dmkIII and sigma 120-300 2.8. Photos 9-12 used 580exII mounted on monopod below camera.

Really nice series John.. A couple questions for you:

When shooting with the 580EX - do you shoot single shots only?
Ever have problems with the batteries overheating on that flash?
I assume you mount the flash below to combat the shadows from the field lights and get light into the helmets - correct?
