Default More girls soccer

I had a chance to take out my new 70-400G and shoot my granddaughters first soccer game. It was a cloudy day but I was able to get good shutter speeds. All shot off a monopod at ISO 400.

I especially like the last one ... a great capture.

Though I like them all, I think the framing could be better. You chopped off a lot of body parts.

Looks like the lens worked out well for you and your granddaughter had a great time. I love the celebration shot.

I think you are going to do well with a bit of practise (and you have a good subject to practise on). I would frame tighter, you want to be filling about 3/4 of the frame vertically (not quite so important with smaller people), also open up that aperture, a couple were at f8. Go for aperture priority if you are not already or preferably go manual. If going manual don't forget it is a variable aperture lens so set the aperture to something that is available at all lengths (I would go for f5.6 to keep the shutter speed up and the depth of field down).

Looking forward to your next time out!!!!

I really like the last one too. I really love watching kids play sports. You never know what's going to happen!

Mike, I'm not one to critique ANYONE'S sport shots, but I love 'em all, especially the last. That is one fine lens you got there. I'm still waffling on whether to get the 70-300G.
