Default Which lens to rent

Two years ago now I picked up a Nikon D5000 with the two kit lenses. One of the first things I shot was a Middle School girls basketball game...
Noob + New Camera + Middle School Basketball
I learned a little through that year and went back to the same gym for some more pictures last year...
A year later (MS Girls BB)
I think there's an improvement. lol Now, I want to get even better. There is a store in town that rents lenses. But which one would get me the most 'bang for the buck'?
Here's the ones I'm thinking of...
Nikon AF-S DX 17-55mm f2.8D
Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f2.8G
Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.4D
Nikon AF-S DX 35mm f1.8

I plan on shooting from the baseline, probably between the 3pt arc and the key. Maybe get some shots from center court of girls bringing the ball up the court. I'm leaning toward the 24-70mm, but the 1.4 has me intrigued too.

Suggestions?

I also posted in the Nikon lens section but didn't know how many folks shoot sports.
Thanks
