Default Football First Game

First football game of the year. Was a little nervous shooting with a new camera. But I think they turned out better than I expected.
D7000 and a 80-200mm 2.8 lens. Also no flash was used.

It's a nice first series. Pictures are sharp, wb is as good as can be expected and there's some good action. As for the specific C&C:
shot 1: Tough angle. While I like the notion of him escaping the defense, the background is very distracting and you're shooting from behind the runner.

shot 2: needs tighter framing - the ref and standing player aren't relevant. the story is the fumble

shot 3: nice, head-on action and good capture. This shot is the best illustration though of how an external flash will help you out - right now the runner's face is completely in shadow. With such dark skin tones, flash is extremely beneficial:

I like the natural non-flash look too. But I like seeing faces more.

shot 5: another good shot - tight framing and I like seeing the hold on the defender too But again - with flash you'd get to see more than just his eyes.

Very, very nice first series. The d7000 is looking very nice at ISO 3200.

Thanks JohnG.
The D7000 has done a good job on other sports also. The AF is not that bad and seems to do well in hs gyms also.

I know. But I only have a SB-600 and its just not powerful enough to do what I want. I think it would work but I would get no distance on the field and only get sideline shots.
