Default 1st soccer w/ extender 2x MIII & 70-200mm

I took my first ever soccer games over the weekend. I used a combination of my 300, 2.8 & 70-200 2.8, combined with the 2x extender at different times on each lens when I was able to shoot during the day. The following shots were with the 70-200mm. I wasn't always positioned where the sun was where I wanted it, but I'll learn. I prefer shooting into the sun, normally, but the sun was over the right side on both of these shots.

Jerry - the framing is nice, but the extender really does eat away the image quality.

I agree, John. That's why I wanted to give it a go and see what kind of results I would get. The shots are usable, but they aren't as sharp as I would like. I was hoping I could get a little extra reach. I used the 70-200 version I, which I just sold yesterday & picked up the version II, which is supposedly better matched to the v III extender. That's not why I bought the lens, but maybe there will be some benefit. I bought the lens because the Canon $300 rebate was just too good to pass up, since I've been eying this lens for some time.

I'd be curious to see the exif data on these shots- and have you done some PP..?
Looks like the highlights have been burned to death.. very low contrast..!

Simon - the reality is in lighting such as this the dynamic range is too great. Faces are infinitely more important to have properly exposed than white uniforms. So, it's not uncommon for white uniform highlights to be blown out.

As for contrast - that's one of the reasons a 2xTC just doesn't work well on most lenses.

Indeed,I agree JohnG- the point I was making is that I'd rather see the burned highlights- as opposed to what looks like a slightly flawed attempt to hide it...

They look like they've been toned down a bit too much- and maybe they were like this originally...? Which I much prefer...

Wow, I'm not quite sure how to respond. The smiley doesn't tone down the rude/harsh comment at all. I haven't even looked at the originals yet, my wife edits these & posts them online for viewing by the team(s), but she normally does very little adjustment, although she does sometime adjust exposure. That's beside the point, however, and if you have a suggestion/comment/criticism, great, I'm always looking to improve, but there is no "desperate" anything.

jdnan- no offence was intended I assure you. Apologies for poor choice of word.
I have re-phrased my original point to ease the impact...
