Those all worked (which is why the EXIF wasn't stripped out). We can actually see your camera settings in those. ;-)

If they would have been too large, the forums would have stripped out the EXIF information, resized and recompressed them (which is what happened to the first 3 you posted in this thread). The forums software also leaves a JPEG comment showing "CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62)" in images that it downsizes and recompresses, as it did for the first 3 images you posted. That's one way I can tell if they were too large (and the first 3 were).

That last set was within the maximum allowed sizes, so the forums software did not modify them.

BTW, having EXIF info embedded in images comes in handy for members to help others troubleshoot camera settings problems, too.

You can find number of browser plugins that give you EXIF info (for example, I keep Exif Viewer by Alan Raskin installed in Firefox, just by right clicking on an image in a forum post and selecting a choice to View EXIF.

Or, if you want even more info, you can use something like Jeffry's Exif Viewer, which lets you point it at a link to an image and get lots of info. It uses ExifTool by Phil Harvey to extract a lot of it.

Below is the EXIF info from the first image in that last set, as reported using ExifTool by Phil Harvey (using it from command line). So, we can tell things like that you were using Continuous High Drive Mode, with AI Servo Autofocus Mode (along with lots of other settings info).

That info was stripped out of the images in the first set you posted by our forums software, because either the size or dimensions exceeded the limits.

But, what I usually do is just "right click" on an image from Firefox and select "View Exif Info" using Exif Viewer by Alan Raskin (a free plugin for Firefox).

I like it because I can quickly view camera settings for images that members post without downloading them, and it's cross platform (works with Firefox under Linux, OS X or Windows). Since I use Linux > 90% of the time, having a cross platform plugin is a good thing for me.

There are a number of others around, too. For example PhotoME is a good one for use with Windows (but, they don't offer versions for other operating systems).

In any event, having that info in images is a good idea so that other members can see more about settings being used to help troubleshoot any issues with photos; and as long as images do not exceed the max allowed dimensions or file size, then the forums software will not modify the images and will leave that info intact (if it was there to begin with and not stripped out by the editor being used). That's why it's still there for the last 3 images you posted.

Some browsers allow one to set a preference so images are automatically resized to fit the current browser window size. Some have a hot key combination to increase or decrease the size of everything, e.g. Ctrl + / Ctrl -

I'm not advocating people exceed the image size guidelines, just passing on info on how to avoid having to scroll images anywhere on the net (except Flash and the like).
