Default Up tight and focus on face and emotion

Here are some of my latest attempts to capture emotion in the gym. Yep, the flash and ghosting is huge but I don't have ceiling strobes to work with so I take what I can. As well, those that I have placed in the samples below exclude many technically good shots that bored me to death. These that I kept include some that are blurry and some that have color trouble, and some that have ghosting that seems at times to break away from reality, wow, I love that stuff, so these troubles have to me become emotion provoking attributes that I want.

However, if you really want to see truly professional technical shots you need to go away from here and visit the shots from France in the string titled: New basketball pictures from France. There you will see professional quality, not here. I don't have the lighting to even begin to compete. That French photographe is technically excellent! His photography is what I would rate as 95% perfect. Something to strive for.

Tools I use to date:

50mm f1.8 (various settings)
70-200 f4 L (mostly 160 at f4)
420EX Canon flash
Some zone focus but mostly follow AF
Some sharpening, Neat Image manipulation, lightening or darkening, and contrast plus or minus on those that I thought needed it.

Hi Normcar.

Nice shots - but you can reduce the strong shadows of the flash by raising you recording stand. Getting up on a chair or something. This would make them less snapshot like.
