Not much going on in shot 1 - too much uninteresting dead space. Shot 2 has the nice wave crash but the dynamic range is poor - too much shadow on the surfer and no real detail.

John....whilst I appreciate you comments I must take issue with you as regards photo 1. Your comments are subjective ,if you are commenting from a purely composition point of view then I accept your view . However from a surfers point of view there is much going on .The dead space that you mention gives a perspective of the wave size and the action that the surfer must take to ''Make it'' without hitting those surfers climbing the face .Whithout that ''Dead Space '' the whole size of the wave is lost. However as this site is for comments I understand . I suppose as a surfer myself I appreciate the environment as depicted. Please do not take offence ,I really understand your comments .
