Default England v New Zealand Rugby

Hello all,

I covered an International rugby game at the weekend & this image was used submitted as a colour jpeg but printed in B&W!
The image looked very flat so I've personally "played" with the image to add some "depth", has this transcribed into the image in your more expert opinion?, if not please feel free to show me where I've gone wrong!.

I've converted to b&w then altered colour channels along with contrast & brightness & added 30% sharpening @ 0.7. Thanks in advance for any comments or help. Kind regards Graham.

Hi Graham,

I'll give you my critique although I am far from an expert.

It does appear you got the moment a player is scoring. I would guess the winning team without reading the story.

As for the photo; What medium is being used to show this photo? I feel that with the high level of contrast it may best be suited for magazine print. It may appear too dark for newspaper. For internet use the contrast is too high for my taste.
The high contrast certianly does add depth though.

I've seen too many other photo's of yours to know better then to try to improve on what you present.

To bad the editor didn't take a little time to improve the B&W final image. They should have just left it the way you made it.
I wonder what made them decide to not present it in color?

Im sure you will get a wide variety of opinions on this one.

Mike
