I just got home, and an editor sent my an e-mail asking me to do photos for a rec league volleyball story I'm doing. It's an hour from now in a gym, and I doubt flash will be allowed. Assuming that to be the case, I'm guessing I would set my Z1 to ISO 400 (making due with noise), setting to A priority at 2.8 and trying to keep it wide open to keep it at 2.8? Also, set WB to incandesent (sp?) setting?

Ask the officials, flash might just be allowed. Can't hurt to ask...

If the gym is a typical gym there won't be enough light to freeze the fast action even at ISO 400 f2.8. So don't be surprised if you pictures are blurry... Try capturing the action when it's a little on the slower side... Not sure of the specs of your camera but I would try setting a custom WB or perhaps RAW ( I'm too dang lazy to lookup wheter your camera supports it... :P )

I ended up being able to use flash, and got a few decent shots. I had tried a few shots first without the flash, and even at wide open (f 2.8), shutter speed was only 1/60 or so. Team I ended up focusing on for the story had a husband-wife duo, so the decent shots were mainly of them and they didn't seem annoyed by the flash. For WB, I used the flash preset. Thanks for the input. :-)
