Hi,

new lens arrived on Friday (sigma 100-300mm f4 HSM) so decided to take it out on sunday afternoon, and went looking for some local soccer matches... In the end I only caught the last 10 mins of the match, but having never shot soccer before I felt I wasn't in a great position. (I was standing level with penalty area)

So my question is... where do you guys stand when shooting soccer ?

(or any other game ona rectangular pitch i guess!! )

Behind the bye line / goal ? Halfway line ? Level with penalty box ?

Feel quite happy with exposure settings, but just wondered where people have had most success from, or if you've any other tips tricks with soccer?

Jim

Where you position yourself at a soccer game is dependant on what shots you are looking for. A lot of times I will stand somewhere on the end line. This gives me the chance to catch some great action shots of attempted goals an a lot of times will enclude the goalie although most times it will be the back side of him. If I want to get good goalie shots I will position my self a little above the penalty area and there are times I will be near mid-field, surprisingly you can get some great shots from thier also. Soccer is a great sport to take photos of, there is always action somewhere. Good luck and have a great time!

Cheers K1par... some nice shots there

Seems like experimentation will probably be best option for me, just see what works and what doesn't... Ideally goalmouth action would be good, so standing behind the goal seems like something to try, although like you said you don't get the keeper, and vice versa if you go fro the halfway line...

cheers anyway, will get stuck in and start shooting, and see how it goes:-)
